Will Riley

Riley is a high-volume scorer on the wing and tough shot-maker, who displays signs of a growing playmaking instinct as well. He has good positional size, especially when operating as a big guard, but a still lanky frame that will need to add a fairly significant amount of muscle in the coming months and years. He’s a solid athlete with an elastic type of quality in terms of the way he can maneuver his frame.

He’s a tough shot-maker, at multiple levels, but one who shows signs of real craft when he isn’t settling. Whether it’s footwork off the catch or at the tail end of his drives, long strides through the lane, or even his understanding of how to get to the free-throw line, he has very good instincts and just a knack for putting the ball in the basket that is more than the sum of the individual components of his skill-set.

Riley has had the freedom to play with the ball in his hands, both during the prep and grassroots season, allowing him to experiment with initiating offense. He’s shown floor vision and flashes of passing ability at times, with both hands, and has the potential to develop that aspect of his game more in the coming years.

As he builds up his body, learns to play through contact, and more specifically, be able to hold his line off the dribble and spots on both ends of the floor, it should enable him to improve his efficiency. The less he willingly settles for tough shots, and the more he utilizes the totality of his scoring versatility, instinctive craft, positional size, and playmaking for both himself and others, the better he’ll be.

Of course, he’s also going to have to prove that he’s capable of holding his own on the defensive end, against bigger and stronger players who will look to attack him physically, especially as a freshman.
