Ven-Allen Lubin

Lubin is a big-bodied four-man who has the length and strength to slide over and play some five. While he’s not quite all of his listed 6-foot-8, he has a massive wingspan at over 7-foot-1 with broad shoulders and a powerful 235-pound frame.

Offensively, he has solid versatility and mismatch ability, because he can take smaller defenders into the post, or turn and face bigger defenders. He’s more comfortable putting the ball on the floor, and can finish with some sneaky bounce and both hands around the rim, but also showed some progress as a shooter when his feet were set and he was in rhythm. He’s a good offensive rebounder and capable of generating second chance points. While his turnovers have exceeded his assists in each of the last two seasons with Notre Dame and Vanderbilt respectively, he’s been utilized in a variety of different spots on the floor without looking uncomfortable, which is often indicative of a high basketball IQ.

Defensively, he can match-up with most opposing fours and fives, but isn’t going to have extreme versatility if asked to switch onto a guard. His length allows him to get his hands on some balls defensively, and keeps him in some plays even when his lateral quickness can leave something to be desired. He is a solid area rebounder, who has some untapped potential to assert himself even more on the glass.
