June 2011: Johnson already has excellent size for either of the wing positions at the next level and will be a force to be reckoned with in high school for years to come. Johnson shows nice elevation on his jump shot and a release that produces solid rotation that lands soft on the rim. Johnson uses his wide shoulders well to back off aggressive defenders with a nice step through into a three-point attacking stance. He shows natural scoring ability and should improve as his feel for the game improves (shot selection). He was aggressive on the boards at the Pangos All-American Camp and ran the floor the way an elite athlete should be expected to fill the lanes. Johnson's young, very young, and how he develops over time will result in him being a top-top prospect at the high-major level or something less. It's up to him, but the educated guess is Johnson will be high on the 247 Sports rankings list for the Class of 2014 when all is said and done.

July 2012 Evaluation: Johnson has begun the difficult transition from playing power forward in high school to working on becoming a perimeter player on the college level. So far so good as his tireless work in the gym along with his roster spot with Team USA is helping Johnson become the all-around player so many projected when he first came on the national scene as an 8th grader. Johnson's outside shot has improved dramatically since last summer, and while consistency from the perimeter needs improvement, Johnson demonstrates excellent form out to 23 feet. Impressive is Johnson's ability to defend all five positions. He's as effective in riding a point guard up the court as he is trying to muscle a center off the low block. There is no hype over substance for Johnson. He's an excellent basketball player and a clear-cut high major prospect.
