Kylan Boswell

Kylan Boswell is a former five-star prospect who was originally a member of the class of 2023, before reclassifying up to join Arizona as a young freshman in the summer of 2022. He played back-up minutes off the bench as a freshman before taking over the starting job as a sophomore, where he had very high expectations coming into the season after a strong summer with USA Basketball. Those expectations only gained momentum after a strong start to his sophomore campaign, but unfortunately it ended up by a season characterized by inconsistency. He finished the season by scoring 5 or less points in 5 of Arizona’s last 6 games.

Boswell is a big-bodied lead guard who is strong and physical on both ends of the floor. He has a good instinctive feel for the game offensively with a better than 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio, had bouts of struggling with both his confidence and his decision-making late in the game. It was a similar story with his shooting. He’s a career 38% three-point shooter, who is at his best in the middle third of the court, but got very streaky when confidence and focus became concerns. He’s typically a pull-up threat with deep range and valuable pick-and-roll playmaker who can make reads and utilize his strong frame to punish defenders for certain coverages.

Physically, Boswell is strong with good body control. He can push the ball with pace and also has some craft and dexterity in the lane, but is not necessarily an explosive vertical athlete. Defensively, he is most effective as part of a connected half-court defense, where he can be physical and not pulled too far away from his help. His overall focus is also a key variable for his future success.

Boswell is a competitive and winning point guard with a strong and sturdy frame who sets the tone on the defensive end. One of the best on-ball defenders in his class, Boswell is aggressive in getting into opposing ball handlers and guarding with physicality. He has the length to make life hard on whoever he is facing and is one who wins most one-on-one battles when guarding in transition. "Timely" is the best word to describe his offensive game. Boswell plays with pace and is fundamentally sound off the bounce. He has the vision to make the right pass and can be dependable shooting the ball from deep when in rhythm although his shot could use more consistency. However, he always can be counted upon to make the big play at the right time -- whether it be a timely bucket, pass, or forced turnover. He is all about winning and is one of those players who is proven in uplifting a team with great talent around him.
