Scouting Report

Evaluated 10/16/2023

Adam Finkelstein
Adam Finkelstein Director of Scouting

Jamari Phillips is one of the more naturally talented, and versatile, guards in the class. He is a tough shot-maker who can make threes and pull-ups in bunches when he gets hot. He’s built up his body to become a legitimate power guard. He’s also capable of asserting himself on the defensive end of the floor.

His athleticism has evolved alongside his frame as he seems to have added burst and explosiveness in correlation to his newfound strength. He’s consequently more of a threat to get downhill and potentially that much more dangerous coming off ball-screens as defenders have to respect both the threat of his jumper and ability to turn the corner.

Similarly, he is capable of picking up opposing ball-handlers for the length of the floor when he wants to on the defensive end.

Phillips shoots with a wide base and sometimes flatter ball, but he’s a constant threat to make shots off the catch or the dribble (37% 3pt & 80% FT in the EYBL). Where he could get more efficient is with his decision-making. His shot-selection can be questionable and his turnovers exceeded his assists in EYBL play. If he can be a more willing ball-mover and learn to utilize his versatility to take what the defense gives him, he would be both harder to guard and easier to play with.

H.S. Athletic Background

Jamari Phillips is a 6-3, 190-pound Combo Guard from Modesto, CA.
