H.S. Scouting Report

H.S. Athletic Background

Gabe York is a 6-2, 175-pound Shooting Guard from Orange (California) Lutheran - Orange County. York has a 247Sports rating of 98, making him a 5-star prospect.

May 2011: York is a dynamic, score-first point guard who's working this spring and summer to become more of a facilitator at the next level. York has a deadly jump shop with range out to the NBA arc. Most impressive is his quick first step and elite-level crossover dribble that can get him into the paint against any defense. York is a physical player for his size and uses that aggressive along with his speed and quickness to try and intimidate opposing point guards. It's no wonder this "west coast wonder" is being recruited heavily by several east coast teams.

End of Summer: York had enough 40-point games over the summer to solidify his reputation as a deadly scorer. Perhaps more impressive though was his ability to lock up opponents on the defensive end of the floor. York went from a scorer in March to a complete player in August, and that showed during the Adidas Nations event where the traditional AAU fun was replaced by true teamwork where a player's reputation was replaced by the simplicity of helping one's "team" win basketball games. York's competitiveness is of an elite, take no prisoners nature, and along with his natural basketball talents is the key reason why his continued development (and achievement) in college and beyond has no ceiling.

November 30, 2013: York is making the most of his sophomore season thus far. He added 10 pounds of muscle in the off season and has emerged as a better, tougher and more physical defender. As a result, York is averaging nearly 20 minutes per game, scoring just under 10 points per outing. The sharpshooting guard is hitting on 44.8% of his 3-Point attempts through Arizona's first seven games, and scored a career-high 20 points in 100-50 win over Fairleigh Dickinson. In close wins over Drexel and Duke in games played at Madison Square Garden, York was 4-for-4 from the foul line with under a minute left.
