Vernon Carey

A thick, burly prospect, Carey is a low-post presence and strong rebounder with offensive potential. Carey has nice hands and very good touch around the basket. He has back-to-the basket moves and favors getting to a hook shot, but he can also bully his way to the rim. He has added a jump shot that extends out to the college 3-point stripe, which is key for his long-term potential. Carey does a very good job rebounding his area, pursues the ball off the rim and boxes out well. He has fine size for the position, but just an OK wingspan (7-foot-1) and standing reach (9’0.5”), by NBA standards. For Carey to maximize his potential, he’s going to have to monitor staying in shape, continue to expand the range on his jump shot and improve his lateral mobility. He is tracking as a first-round talent.
