Comparison

Malachi Wideman Jackson State Tigers

A quarterback-turned-wide receiver that’s also a legitimate D1 basketball prospect. Looks a bit taller on tape than he actually is, which likely stems from the fact that he’s got a lean, wiry frame with longer limbs. Limited, if any, testing data available, but he seems to have no issues getting behind defenders on Friday nights. Has also shown that he’s capable of hitting an extra gear after the catch and seems to run with a natural bounce to his step. Kind of a linear deep-ball specialist at this stage in his development, but that could be a product of the run-first offensive system that he played in as a junior (only caught 21 passes). Has produced in key situations and helped flip the field time after time, but will need to keep progressing as a route runner and learn how to consistently create separation when working the lower numbers of the route tree. Must also eventually add some core strength as that should allow him to be an effective perimeter blocker. Added weight could also make him more dangerous when the ball is in his hands. Will likely need some time to mature and figure things out at the next level, but rare athletic ability combined with promising measurables suggests that he can eventually emerge as a big-play machine for a Power 5 program. Biggest thing over the next few years will be soaking in as much coaching as possible while also embracing the weight room. NFL length.
