Virtually unstoppable small-school high school football player who faced rural competition but consistently asserted his will. Able to run down or outrun almost any opponent at Texas 2A level. Enormous production as a dual-threat QB with 2,000-plus passing, 2,500-plus rushing, and 70-plus total TDs as a junior. Nearly 300 tackles and 24 INTs on defense from freshman through junior campaigns, plus a handful of special teams TDs. Missed first several games of senior year with a knee injury, but returned to lead Timpson High to its first state championship, capping a genuinely legendary four-year TXHSFB career. Finished four-year varsity tenure with nearly 6,000 passing yards, 5,300-plus rushing yards, and nearly 180 total TDs (76 passing, 93 rushing, plus defensive and teams).
