Patrick Towles

Considered the quarterback of the future when he signed with Kentucky as a four-star recruit in 2012, Patrick Towles appeared poised to redshirt during his freshman season before being forced into action due to injuries. He led Kentucky on a touchdown drive on his first possession, but suffered an ankle injury later in the game and battled inconsistency after returning to the field later in the season. Towles finished third in the quarterback competition in 2013 and ultimately redshirted during his second season on campus. Considered something of an afterthought in the competition heading into 2014, Towles found extra individual coaching during the offseason and showed vast improvement in the spring before ultimately winning the starting job in preseason camp. He threw for 377 yards in his first start against UT Martin then posted standout performances in losses to Florida and Mississippi State. Towles started all 12 games in 2014, finishing the season with 3,021 yards of total offense.
