H.S. Scouting Report
H.S. Athletic Background
Nick Johnson a.k.a. 'Limelight' was born to be in the spotlight. Johnson started his high school basketball career at Highland High School (Gilbert, Ariz.) before transferring to national powerhouse Findlay Prep in Las Vegas, Nev. Johnson immediately became a star, wowing fans at Findlay and while playing for the Drew Gooden Soldiers AAU traveling team. Johnson was a top-40 national recruit out of high school, and considered one of the prized recruits in Arizona's Class of 2011.
Johnson is displaying his versatile skills already at Arizona as a true freshman. The combo guard has embedded himself into Arizona's starting lineup and is averaging 10.1 points per contest through U of A's first 13 games. Johnson, the son of former Arizona State star athlete 'Jumpin' Joe Johnson, has the innate ability to leap from a stand-still position and grab a quarter off the top of the backboard. His tremendous vertical jumping ability has already resulted in several thunderous dunks in his young college career, including a one-handed jam over Clemson's 7-foot-3 center. Johnson comes from a long lineage of athletes, which includes his uncle former Boston Celtics great Dennis Johnson.
Johnson's scoring average has dipped to 9.2 points per game since the start of Pac-12 conference play, but in recent wins over California and Stanford the true freshman is beginning to show signs of catching his second wind as the Wildcats prepare for its final seven league games and then tournament play in March.
