The 2014 Gatorade National Player of the Year, Towns was a 2014 McDonald's All-American. He signed with Kentucky as a five-star recruit and the No. 2 recruit in the country according to 247Sports. Towns gained significant international experience playing for the Dominican Republic National Team in High School under John Calipari and former UK assistant Orlando Antigua. He averaged 20.9 points, 13.4 rebounds and 6.2 blocks per game as a senior to lead St. Joseph High School to a New Jersey Tournament of Champions title. Towns immediately slid into the starting lineup as a freshman and starred for the Kentucky Final Four team that won its first 38 games of the season. He ranked second on the team in scoring and led Kentucky in rebounding and blocks en route to earning SEC Freshman of the Year and USBWA Freshman All-American honors. Projected as a candidate for the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NBA draft, Towns left Kentucky after one season.
