Reminds Us Of

Phidarian Mathis Washington Commanders

Ultra-talented two-way high school lineman who's a legitimate high-major prospect on either side of the line of scrimmage. Defense appears to be his desired destination in the long run. Legitimately 6-foot-4 and pushing 300 pounds entering college. Wears mass quite well. Adequate length and can hold some more bulk if desired, but owns virtually ready-to-roll size. Extensive two-way experience -- including touches as a ball carrier -- combines with AAU and varsity basketball participation to provide a strong athletic foundation. Big base and leverage awareness create a point-of-attack assailant. Displays encouraging redirecting ability relative to size, a quality revealed in pursuit and as a devastating puller at offensive guard. Scary sight eclipsing the edge to lead the way on outside run. Strength shows in ability to play through contact vs. the run. Flashed promising edge athleticism during All-American Bowl week against some elite competition. Lacks typical production of other elite defensive linemen; likely a product, at least in part, of multi-faceted two-way duties. Redirecting twitch overcomes some occasional rigidity. Could need time to hone technical nuance, particularly as a pass rusher. One of the nation's top front-line defensive prospects in the 2024 class. Projects as a potential high-major impact player with the physical tools, on-field profile, and multi-sport athleticism that suggest a ceiling in the NFL Draft early rounds.
