2-3 Round Day 2

Reminds Us Of

Nick Vannett Denver Broncos

Big-framed tight end prospect who has ample playing experience on both sides of the ball. Impressive height and length with frame space to add bulk in college. Size and ability to be a Power Five-caliber recruit at tight end or defensive end. In-line size with flex skills. Experienced as a blocker in a run-heavy scheme. Quick-footed player with a motor that runs high. Keeps feet pumping when engaged as a blocker and finishes well. Experience moving around the formation. Uses hands well. Athletic pass-catcher relative to frame. Big catch radius. Consistent hands catcher. Flashes enough speed after the catch to get yards in the open field. Finds open space and makes himself a target. Leverages defenders and knows how to use big body to shield them from the ball. High ceiling as a red-zone target. Limited downfield pass-catching experience. Largely used in short-range passing game. Must incorporate intermediate and deep routes to arsenal. As noted, possesses a great frame, but must add bulk and strength to fight in the phone booth at the P5 level. Needs more route-running precision. Rounds off routes at times. Can improve body control when engaged in the run game. Ceiling to develop into earlier-round NFL Draft prospect.

H.S. Athletic Background

He helped Collinsville to a 12-1 season and earned first-team All-District 5A-4 honors. This season Boomer really worked on his blocking prowess as Collinsville used a devastating rushing attack to finish as the runner-up in Class 5A. Boomer caught 15 passes for 118-yards with three touchdowns and an average of 7.9-yards a reception. His principal told us when we inquired that he didn’t have many stats (Collinsville runs the ball), but that as a player is diligent and he is consistent as he referred to Boomer’s blocking. He is a Mr. Football Oklahoma honoree from Vype Magazine. Boomer also helped the Cardinals compete in the state playoffs in 2015 and 2016 and contributed primarily as a blocker at Collinsville early in his career, hauling in 15 passes as a sophomore and two during a junior campaign with limited playing time due to injury. He was the first player in the 2019 class to commit to Oklahoma State, doing so verbally on Nov. 4, 2017.

Scouting Report: He is the tight end equivalent of The Blind Side and former Ole Miss and NFL tackle Michael Oher, Boomer is big that he was a man amongst boys in Class 5A Oklahoma football. Don’t be worried that he only caught 15 passes as a senior, he could have caught 150. Boomer presents a big target and catches the ball well, but he is going to have an education ahead of him playing with athletes closer to and at his own size with more speed. I can see a transition ahead. That is not his fault, but it won’t be easy. He is going to have to learn how to use all his body and all his skills. In blocking, he plays way too high, but he could easily get away with it in high school. There is a reason he was rated so high as a prospect and it is based on his frame and athletic ability, the job now for Oklahoma State coaches and staff and Boomer is to maximize all of it.
