Projection

4-7 Round Day 3

A front-seven defender with some juice. Tips the scales at roughly 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, but has the frame to eventually carry 265 pounds or more. First-step quickness is what separates him from others on Friday nights as he does a nice job of anticipating snap counts and is always ready to pounce on a ball carrier or flush out a pocket. More of a finesse player than he is a power-based player at this stage in his development, but should eventually get better at that point of attack as he adds strength and his body continues to mature. Spent most of junior season working as a stand-up edge rusher in a 3-4 front, but did occasionally put his hand in the dirt. Found success in both roles totaling seven sacks in nine games. Also has some experience dropping back into coverage, and has even shown on the 7-on-7 circuit that he can create some separation as a tight end. Will likely need a few years to get adjusted to the physicality of the college game. Must also keep progressing/evolving as a pass rusher. However, has some of the required traits to emerge as an impact player at the Power 5 level given his initial burst, above-average reach and ankle flexibility. Likely to settle in as outside ‘backer in an aggressive defensive system that wants him to get after the quarterback. Might also be able to get things done as a Mike in certain schemes as he has flashed the ability to not only come down hill and close gaps, but also get outside the hashes. Size and ability to run will have him on the special teams coordinator's radar.
