First Round

Reminds Us Of

Alex Leatherwood Las Vegas Raiders

A promising offensive line prospect with a high ceiling. Looks the part with a bubbly, athletic frame that isn’t sloppy. Measured just a shade under 6-foot-6, 305 pounds at check-in for the All-American Bowl. More importantly, showed up to the annual all-star event with longer reach (had over 34-inch arms). An effective run blocker on Friday nights that latches onto would-be tacklers and drives them out of the way as he opens up lanes. Gets to the second level better than most big bodies his age and is always looking to put a would-be tackler in the dirt. Quick to establish a firm, wide base in pass protection as he sets up for combat. Likes to use a heavy punch to fend off defenders and buy time for his quarterback. Spent much of prep career working at left tackle in one of the Peach State’s more competitive regions. Could continue to protect the blindside at the next level, but has some position versatility to him and could find himself at right tackle or even occupying one of the guard spots on Saturdays. Must get more consistent on a snap-to-snap basis and learn how to handle the twitched-up edge rushers that every College Football Playoff contender is rostering these days, but has a chance to be a multi-year starter for a top 25 program given measurables, flexibility/strength and play style. Likely going to need a year or two to find his bearings, but isn’t exactly arriving on campus as a huge project. Should eventually be selected in the NFL Draft if there are no major setbacks and he continues to develop.
