Cole Birmingham

Birmingham was part of an offensive line that blocked for a unit that gained 5,914-yards of total offense with 2,021-yards passing and 3,893-yards on the ground. That offense scored a total of 83 touchdowns and Katy finished 11-2 overall in the 2018 football season. Individually, the offensive line blocked for running back Deondrick Glass, who finished with 225 carries for 1,951-yards and an average of 8.7-yards per carry. He is a two-time All-District 19-6A performer that is also a second-team All-Super Team Texas Football Magazine honoree. Katy won at least 10 games in each of Birmingham’s four high school seasons, including a 16-0 state-championship run as a freshman in 2015. He finished his high school career with a 49-6 career record. Katy’s rushing attack averaged 6.9 yards per carry in 2017 and 7.4 in 2016, according to MaxPreps and Birmingham played a key role in helping Katy rack up 3,366 rushing yards and 47 touchdowns during his sophomore season in 2016

Scouting Report: Very athletic for his size and moves well. His hips and core are excellent, I mean as good as you will see on an offensive tackle coming out of high school. One of my favorite aspects of offensive line play is to see the lineman tie up a defender and then initiate a twist, kind of a corkscrew move from the core that puts the defender on the turf and Birmingham can do that naturally. He has an excellent bucket step technique. He is a good blocker on the move, can shield off a defender at the first level and run and pick up a second level defender. He’s able to double-team, better as the angle than the establisher but most linemen are. Pass protection is good, arms extend and can stay locked up, but is subject to losing the quick edge rusher off the snap. Safe to say right now, while he can overpower smaller defenders he is most vulnerable to those kind of players when they move quickly off the ball and have a little shake to them. Best part about Birmingham, he rarely takes a play off. His motor runs hot and he appears to play with a mean streak.
