Reminds Us Of

Junior Colson Michigan Wolverines

New-age linebacker with big-time potential given his elite speed and elite length. Instant eye-catcher at practices for the Under Armour All-America Game with his budding, high-cut frame that stretches over 6-foot-3. Started prep career off playing safety before moving into the box in advance of junior year. Has continued to improve his feet and recognition, but will need to get stronger and better at taking on blocks if he’s going to help combat downhill run games on Saturdays. Can chew up turf like few other mid-skill players in the class and owns top-flight track numbers for the position, having finished 4th at Nike Indoor Nationals as an 11th grader in both the 55 and 60-meter hurdles. Makes plenty of plays in coverage as he’s alert and oftentimes aware of his surroundings (had multiple pick-sixes as a senior). Effective as a blitzer when his number is called and will tee-off on quarterbacks when the opportunity presents itself. Projects as a versatile second-level piece for a Power Five defense that could thrive in a nickel/dime linebacker role. Likely will need a developmental year or two before he’s ready to go as he needs to keep adding mass, but hustles to make stops while also defending the pass at a very high level, which is a promising combo at this stage. Rare physical features likely to draw the attention of NFL scouts one day, especially if he can take the next step as a run defender.
