Asa Newell

Newell is a highly talented southpaw forward who possesses a unique overlap of size, athleticism, and face-up skill. He’s a consistent shooter from beyond the arc who can consistently space the floor, play out of pick-and-pop action, and trail the break for threes. He’s also an explosive vertical athlete, emphatic above-the-rim finisher, and consistent lob threat. He runs well, covers the court, and has become increasingly dangerous in transition with a newfound commitment to sprinting the floor.

Physically, Newell lacks great length and while he owns a sturdy frame, he needs to get both stronger and more comfortable through contact. Offensively, he has soft touch around the rim to match his leaping ability, but still isn’t always a great traffic finisher. Defensively, he’s a valuable rim protector who can change or discourage as many shots as he blocks and also has a knack for tracking down shots when coming from behind the ball, both in transition and when recovering in the half-court. However, he needs to become a more physical post defender for the next level and could also assert himself more as a rebounder on both ends of the floor.
